Buddhist Communities and Buddhist-Inspired NGOs

Representatives of the following communities participate in occasional meetings and a mailing list for organizers and event planners. They also contribute to a public community calendar, specifically for events that are open to members of other communities and the general public.     • Founded in 2007, the Alliance for Bhikkhunis is a US-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization committed to supporting ordained Theravada Buddhist women (bhikkhunis). Our focus is to support and protect the development of the international Bhikkhuni Sangha through education, sustainable economic empowerment, provisioning of health care, and organizing and mobilizing for a gender-balanced approach to Theravada monasticism.

    • This site is the online home of the D.I.Y. Dharma sangha – a peer-led community of freaks, geeks, queers, trans*folk, rebels, outcasts, stream-enterers and our friends, who meditate in the Buddhist tradition. We meditate together in East Vancouver, following the Buddhist tradition. Ours is a space for kindness, mutual respect, and safety, free from oppression and violence. The group currently operates a single weekly peer-led meditation sit every Sunday night at 6:30p at Unity Yoga.
